If you’ve come to this page, perhaps you’re struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, self-image issues, stress, grief or loss. Or, maybe you have a general lost sense of purpose. Either way, I want to help. My passion is bringing others to a place where they realize they do have the strength to interpret, and resolve life’s challenges, overwhelming demands, and emotional disturbances.
My aim is to give you a ‘safe space’ – not to give you advice or tell you what I think your ‘real’ problem is. Instead, my style of therapy guides you come to your own revelations about yourself. These revelations can then become your source of healing. Ultimately, the answers to your life’s concerns, fears, depressions and traumas are contained within you. My role is to help you learn to use your intuition – your inner wisdom (if you will) – so you can begin to heal from what’s bothering you. Starting from a strengths-focused perspective, I believe that people already have within them much of what is needed… its my job to help you bring that forward and to help you find it. You are your own expert on yourself -no one knows you better than you do. Collaboratively, I work with you and for you to help you uncover the solutions that will make a difference in your life.
All of the types of counsellling that I use are client-centered, from focusing oriented therapy to expressive arts therapy to body centered psychotherapy. Working with a counsellor that truly listens to you and walks with you on your difficult journey helps to further the development of healing and processing old wounds. We go through the therapeutic process as a team, building a relationship based on trust, mutual purpose, understanding and respect. The goal of my presence is to provide you with an environment that instills calmness and confidence, without any judgement – helping to empower you to reach your highest potential and helping you to feel like you are the creator of your universe.

When you are heard, you can begin to heal. I truly believe that the best therapy modality is one that relies on the strength of the client to come to a catharsis of their own self. To get to this point, you (as the client) need to be able to express yourself freely, without judgement. And, without relying on external advice.
Being heard is not just about a therapist or external person listening to what you have to say. It can also involve listening to yourself. Our own ‘whispering truths’ often get suppressed, as our way of dealing with life.
My role as a therapist is to help you uncover emotions, sensations, habits, mannerisms and beliefs that go unnoticed through life’s journey – whether good or bad. Believe me: we all have them. Many of us don’t even know these things are still affecting us, not to mention our relationships.
To heal properly, it’s important to first find these truths about ourselves. Then, with continual effort, we can begin to live happily, and freely – the way we should.

What to expect in your sessions with me
Clients have continuously commented that they feel calmer from being in my presence. I have been described as engaging, personable, authentic and passionate. I feel it is important to walk away with a sense of feeling loved and accepted for who you are. Part of what makes me, well.. me… is that I have walked many paths to redemption. From years of personal experience with pain, both physical, mental and emotional, I have the unique experience of understanding with compassion and insight on the issues that matter to you most. This has afforded me a sense of humility and grace, as well as deeper trust in myself and the universe – qualities which I teach to my clients as part of a mindfulness approach.
As a mixed media artist and Expressive Arts Therapist, I see beauty everywhere. I have been healed through the arts – through imagination and creativity – and it is through this same process that I offer assistance to my clients. From my experience, I have learned that salvation comes from that divine expression of the soul and from uncovering what lies beneath – in and through the arts.
People come to counselling and therapy because they are looking for someone to hold them accountable yet in high regard with a high level of sensitivity. You want a counsellor who has a fighting spirit – someone who understands what it’s like for life to hand you lemons, and despite that, nothing can keep you down. Having faith in yourself and your ability to weather the storms is an important part of managing life’s challenges. Together we work on building expectations for success and creating opportunities to expand upon your coping skills and methods of personally balancing the trials and tribulations you are facing.
Counselling if often measured in years, not months – this requires patience with progress and an understanding that change takes time. But throughout this process, what is really important in a therapist is someone who is your personal cheerleader, someone who has your back and listens while honouring your individuality and uniqueness, and revels in your differences. Coming from a strength-oriented perspective, I look for the best in people and usually find it. Using the arts to say what words can not
The great thing about art is that it can help us find truths about ourselves without using words, and without needing to be logical. Art is also therapeutic and relaxing in itself. Expressive Art Therapy can involve painting, song, poetry, dance, movement, drama, clay or sand tray work, and so on. The idea with Expressive Arts Therapy is that, during the process of creative expression, metaphoric themes emerge. These noticeable traits can jump start an inquiry into the soul. From here, therapy for emotional healing starts to take shape.
FOCUSING ORIENTED THERAPY

HOW CAN FOCUSING HELP YOU?
In this type of therapy, we pay special attention to symptoms of emotional distress that are easily ‘drowned out’ by the ‘noise’ of daily life. This is where we learn about the instinctive, reactive measures we use to protect ourselves from pain - both emotional and physical. These symptoms can exhibit in the mind or the body, since the two are believed to be deeply connected. Finding these mind-body symptoms, and accepting them, is called the “felt sense.” This synchronization brings us to a place where holistic healing can begin. We aim to bring the subconscious suffering into the conscious, so that it can be ‘released.’
Focusing-Oriented Therapy integrates well with Expressive Arts Therapy and can be used as a technique alongside it.
BODY CENTERED PSYCHOTHERAPY

IS BODY CENTERED PSYCHOTHERAPY RIGHT FOR YOU?
With Body-Centered Therapy, we are concerned with how the body exhibits symptoms to emotional trauma and distress. A trauma to the body can affect the mind, and a trauma to the mind can affect the body. The two want to heal together. With Body-Centered Therapy, therapy begins to take a more overt form of connecting bodily expressions to cognitive stresses. It also involves some physical touch from the therapist, with your permission. The aim is to help pinpoint the physical mannerisms or sensations that are ‘speaking’ what the mind is ‘saying.’ The client comes to realizations on their own, but with the aid of the therapist’s concrete intervention.
